Alexander Graham Bell was a very famous inventor. He was born in Scotland in 1847. When he was young, he loved to learn about sound and music. His mother was deaf, so Bell wanted to help people who could not hear well.
Bell moved to America when he was a young man. He worked very hard every day in his laboratory. He wanted to build a machine that could send voices through a wire. Many people said it was impossible, but Bell did not stop.
On March 10, 1876, Bell made the first telephone call in history. He spoke into his machine and said: "Mr Watson, come here, I want to see you." His assistant Thomas Watson heard the message in another room. It worked!
The telephone changed the world. For the first time, people could send their voice to someone far away. Today, almost everyone uses a telephone. We can call, message, and video chat with people all around the world. Bell's invention is still important today.
